We (my husband and I) stayed 3 nights at the Dockside Inn, August 23 - 26, 2010, and really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean, bed was great, staff was super helpful and friendly, and having tea and coffee available 8 am till 10 pm at no charge was awesome. The location to the ferry dock and the main shopping/entertainment street of Oak Bluffs was excellent. We would definitely stay again.

After extensive searching, we took a friends advice and stayed here. The room was fantastic, decor, size, location... The hotel staff were very helpful and kind upon check in and i am sure had we needed anything during our stay they would have gladly accommodated us.

We stayed in one of the suites, #61, not sure of the name of the house, on the bottom floor. Though it was very large, had the best shower i think i have ever had and was beautifully decorated, the noise from the floor above us and the cleaning staff was ridiculous.

From the minute we got there all we heard was the people walking above us. All the floors are a beautiful hardwood, but when desinging the rooms, I do not think they took into account the noise level. Also, the stairs going up to the 2nd floor are all wood and the doors are incredible heavy and loud. That coupled with the cleaning staff who start at 8am, sleeping in and napping were not a possibility which was unfortunate as i left our two toddlers at home to get some much needed rest and relaxation. We did mention this to the front desk and we didn't get much of a reply, though i am not sure of what he could do.

Overall, the hotel was great and if i was to go back with my children i would stay there, but for $1200 a night, quiet is a must for us.

I just stayed at the Lightkeepers Inn last weekend and my boyfriend and I had a fantastic time. The Inn is very quaint and in a great location close to everything in Edgartown. Had a family room and kitchen, which I wasn't even expecting so there was plenty of room, more than 2 of us needed, but it was still great. We loved our private patio where we enjoyed the sun and played scrabble as the sun was setting. I saw complaints about the construction noise, but this was not an issue, I barely heard anything nor did I care because we were too busy exploring the area anyway. Within walking distance to many great restaurants and the harbor, would def stay there again.

I recently took my family to the Vineyard and stayed at the Dockside Inn for the first time. We splurged on the Garden Apartment, and I wasn't sure what we'd be getting for the money (the 360 tour doesn't work on my computer). Although I still think it was pricey, I was very pleased with the accommodations.

Upon arrival (with tons of gear as we have two small children), we were able to leave our luggage in a safe place and were given a tour of the inn. Faith was full of useful information on the buses, beaches, etc. We were offered beach chairs and towels although we brought our own.

I was struck by how private the Garden Apartment is. Although it's just behind the courtyard of the main inn, the fences, bushes and trees make it feel very secluded. We had a private deck with a table/chairs and a small back area with a private outdoor shower (so key for young children and the beach!). At night, my husband and I sat on the deck and enjoyed wine under the stairs, and although the deck is close to a busy street, we found it private and quiet. Inside, the apartment was very clean and well equipped and we had ample space to spread out. The kitchen had basic supplies so we could cook (including wine glasses, which was a nice touch). The bathroom was huge, and the separate shower/jacuzzi tub were wonderful. Overall, there was a ton of light in the apartment, and you could use the AC, or open the porch doors/windows. The only thing that I did not like was the mattresses - I prefer a firm mattress, and the bed and pull out were a bit soft and creaky. However, the linens were clean.

On our day of departure, we missed our scheduled ferry and the other woman in the Inn's office was so kind and considerate to us to make sure we knew in the meantime that we could store our luggage, use the common outdoor shower after the beach, etc.

I would definitely recommend the Inn and the Garden Apartment and look forward to staying there again

We decided to visit MV for the first time to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. After performing tons of research, we decided to book at the Harbor View for three nights due to its great location and solid reputation even though it was a bit pricey. I can say that we loved the hotel and think it is perfect for those who want to stay at a classy hotel in a convenient location with a perfect view of the harbor. We would definitely stay here again, but we'll have to save up first!

Pros:

* Excellent location for strolling around Edgartown
* Lots of character, including a great porch
* Awesome view of the Edgartown lighthouse and harbor
* Nice chocolate covered strawberries in our room as a surprise wedding anniversary gift
* Friendly and helpful staff
* Walking down Water St. to/from hotel was a welcome, leisurely walk throughout our visit (especially seeing that one house with Clifford and his friend always looking at us through the doorway)

Cons:

* We had to slam our room door in order for it to shut completely
* WiFi Internet was not working for half a day once
* Pricey (you are paying for the location and the fact you are staying at the Harbor View)
* Staff didn't bother to remember our names during our stay like other pricey hotels
* Room cleaning seems to occur very late (past 4:30p in one case)

We go to Smokin Bones every time we visit the island....about four times a year. The food is always fresh and who could resist Stewarts onion rings or the fried pickles? The staff is very funny and the atmosphere is light hearted.... People with no sense of humor should get take out! Highly recommend!

This review comes from an island year round resident.
It's nice to finally have somewhere to go on the island where the atmosphere is great, the food is fabulous, and the service is outstanding. All restaurant's on the vineyard are not cheap, so don't expect cheap here, but you will get what you pay for. This is a legit steak and seafood place. The portions are amazing compared to other restarants on the island as well. Best mojioto's on the island by far as well. I feel like when I eat here i'm not eating at a tourist trap as well. They do a great job!

We stayed at the sail loft (two bedrooms) unit from labor day 9/6 to 9/9 with my extented family (2 adults, 2 elderlies, a kid and a baby). The room is spacious, clean and confortable. It has a full kitchen which is very convenient when dinning out with two yound children sometimes are not easy. The best of all is the location. It is in such convenient location yet still quiet. It is within walking distance to flying horse, beaches, famous restaurants and shopping district. We had a really good time staying there.

The location was walking distance to town. The kitchen had everything we needed to make meals! The kids loved being able to sit on the deck . Own parking spot. The housekeeping staff made this a pleasant vaca because each time I returned to my room everything was spotless. Heidi was accomodating when it came to Hurrican Earl. We will return next year! Only good memories of a wonderful vacation in a comfortable "home away from home"!! Thanks to The Lightkeepers Inn

Stayed at this inn for 4 nights over the labor day holiday. Location is excellent and only several blocks from Main street shopping and restaurants. Very convenient to the bus line for trips about the island. The room was very clean and peaceful. We did not experience any problems with street noise or noise from other visitors. No complaints. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included. Menu was very basic but food was fresh and very good. The inn is pricey, but we were overall very pleased and will consider staying here again upon return visits.
